Plush - Willy the Pangolin by demiveemon Plush - Willy the Pangolin by demiveemon
Finally, after half a year Willy the Pangolin is finished! :cake: Ballons and cake for everybody!!! :bounce:

After a strong run for the finishing line, getting his eyes right turned out to be something of a nightmare. But I must say, in the end I'm pleased with how they turned out. :D

I'll do some research in order to do an estimate of how many hours and scales I've put into this little fella, but for now it's party!!!

Plush - Willy the Pangolin by *demiveemon Every scale has been separately cut and sewn to the body! The result is a plushie with great resemblance to both the drawn character and a real pangolin. Make sure to have a look at the WIP pictures in *demiveemon's gallery, too. You'll be blown away. ( Suggested by janey-in-a-bottle and Featured by FrockTarts )

I do offer a simplyfied version that I refer to as a chibi pangolin and then I also make pangolin fridge magnets from time to time. Both can be found in my pangolin charity store: demiscorner.bigcartel.com/
Chibi pangolins comes in a variety of colors and are made upon order, as I don't have any pre-made left.

Thanks and sorry for the late reply. I've been very much absent from DA lately. Yes. Willy the Pangolin is one of the critters from my Siesta in the jungle-universe. He can be seen in my ID-picture and a hand full of doodles. :3

This is a great way to raise awareness of the pangolin! I'm currently working on a report about captive whales and dolphins at "entertainment" parks like SeaWorld, social media was a topic discussed in the what people are doing to stop this section, and this is a great example of what I was talking about! It just makes me happy to see other people who care about efforts to save species.

I hope the custom of keeping large sea mammals in tiny, cramped basins will end soon. There's no way we could ever give them a good life in captivity and to top it, have them perform idiotic tricks. There's a lot of petitions going around on facebook to bring on a change for many of those traditions, of keeping wild animals in circuses and so on. I often sign and share those petitions and they seem to take effect.

That is also my hope!
My teacher actually said that if everyone in our class brought a dollar that he would pay the rest and we could adopt a wild orca from the WDC!
But back to topic, we really do need to stop keeping animals in zoos and circuses. I'm pretty sure that if we put a person on display in the zoo people would have an outrage. We can't keep animals in tiny pens to live out the rest of their lives, we need to stop seeing animals as lower beings, because in reality we are the ones who are evil and disgusting. It breaks my heart to know that I once liked going to the zoo. To know that I was contributing to the evil doing of others breaks my heart, because I never knew. When you go to a zoo they never tell you "We killed an entire pod of dolphins, and brought this one here". They never tell you "This animal is extremely stressed and we give them anti depressants to make them look happy for you". They never tell you "She's from and endangered population but we keep her here anyways".
We really need to stop this because if our generation doesn't take action over half of the animal species will be gone within 100 years from now. I just hope that we can stop it before it's to late.

That's a really good question. There is no true main characters. They're all main characters in a way. But If I were to pick out a hand full, those would be Pete the Crocodile, Al'Capone the Tiger, Cornelius the Elephant and Willy the Pangolin. Rocky the Frog isn't a main character as such, but he has a habit of appearing in every picture. ;3

Yes, I attached every single scale with an average of three stitches per scale. (When I started making chibi pangolins I went over to glue instead) You can see more pictures from Willy's creation in this section of my gallery if you're interested: demiveemon.deviantart.com/gall… :)

How did even you decide to make a pangolin plushie? Such an unusual choice. And who is this Willy anyway?

Yeah, it did end up to be a lot of blood, sweat and tears. It took me the better part of half a year to finish him, and I had to take a two months break halfway through, as the strain on my hands and fingers got to much.
I think it started out as something said in jest in a conversation with one of my commenters, how I would never do a pangolin plush (due to all the scales such a project would involve). I can't recall for sure. There is a character in my Siesta Universe, a pangolin called Willy. I'm just not certain right now, if I drew him before I started on the plush. I'd say that's likely, and the reason we ever jested about pangolin as a plushing project. Eitherway the idea set up residence in the back of my head, and one day, when I was bored, I started shaping the prototype bodyshape, using three discarded socks. ^^; Long story, short. That was how Willy the plush pangolin started out.

That's right. That was his first ever appearance. I remember now, that I was debating with myself, what kind of eyes I should give the plush. Eventually I decided on black beads instead of cartoony eyes (which I think would have ruined the composition)

Haha, no. With all the time and hard work that was put in to him, no one would be willing to pay that much for him I'm afraid. Then again, I don't think I want to part with him either He should remain in the family. :)
